Provides recommendations for meeting the needs of young refugees to Australia, estimated at 16,000 to 20,000 in number, who must adjust to the challenge of emerging adulthood as well as embracing a new culture. Recommendations include: (1) creation of a national young refugee support policy that is incorporated into the general humanitarian settlement policy; (2) program funding of agencies being linked to broad access and equity; (3) federal strategies that coordinate and integrate human service delivery to young refugees; (4) program/policy improvement based on suggestions and consultationwith the target population; (5) development of statistical analysis programs that capture and evaluate data to measure the effectiveness of policy and programs; (6) creation of short and long-term policy to address the specific needs of young people with refugee experiences; (7) program eligibility criteria that is equitable and efficient; (8) education of communities to welcome and embrace young refugees and to enable their successful assimilation into Australian society; (9) allocation of funds for diverse cultural awareness among service providers; and (10) further research into the similarities and differences among refugees as well as into the needs and access to support services of this population.
