The Children and Violence project was conceptualized early in 2003 by myself and Dr. Sreelakshmi Gururaja the ten Resident Country Representative UNICEF. At the time we were discussing the events immediately following the infamous 2001 jailbreak in Georgetown and the subsequent somewhat terroristic activities especially in Georgetown and the East Coast of Demerara.
