The thesaurus is intended for use by organizations which are active in documentation work concerning refugee, in particular the current and future members of the international Refugee Documentation Network. the need for a multilingual thesaurus was recognized at an early stage, at the time of the Bergisg-Gladbach meeting in November 1986, when the setting up of the network was agreed. In addition to its usefulness as a tool for searching and indexing , it helps to clarify terminology and offers a standard , common language for use within the field of refugees and displaced persons.
