The Women’s Support Group of the Refugee Resettlement Program of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago was born out of a need for mental health services for refugee women. The group inspired the development of a periodical named “Nova Zena” (New Woman), which provides coverage on issues relevant women, including local events, educational opportunities, and literary reviews. The support group empowers women by publishing stories of refugee women, their testimonies about trauma suffered during the war, flight from their native country, separation and loss of family members, and experiences during the resettlement process, as well as to affirm identity and bridge boundaries between racial, ethnic, language groups, and cultures. The group mirrors the resettlement program, including women from Bosnia. Croatia, Kosovo, Africa, Afghanistan, Iran and Cuba. (Description from Source)
