The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 created a new program at HUD, the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP). Designed to alleviate the challenges of homelessness and to help retain housing for those at-risk of becoming homeless, this program more than triples the funding for emergency rental assistance previously available. This funding availability presents an integral opportunity for those working in resettlement to help prevent refugee homelessness. To help your organization take advantage of this opportunity, this fact sheet explains the key provisions of the program and outlines the process underway to allocate funds to needy individuals and the organizations serving them.
