Collaborative efforts to achieve permanency planning and family stability for all children in the child welfare system are increasing. As Latino children and families constitute the fastest growing ethnic group in the child welfare system, it is important to understand how to develop culturally sensitive collaborations with their communities. This article describes cultural considerations and provides helpful guidelines for developing partnerships between child welfare agencies and Latino communities. The guidelines address modifications that should be made in organizational structure and administrative procedures, the identification of resources in the community in the context of cultural traditions and values, and the role of confidence and trust in the development of a relationship with the community.
