Conditions and practices in shelters for trafficked children in Asia caused the ILO-IPEC to develop standards and guidelines for practitioners, care providers, shelter managers and staff, social workers, NGO?s, INGO?s, government officials and policy makers who deal with the recovery and integration of these children. These standards include examples of good and bad practices, and discuss what must and must not be done in each stage of recovery and integration. Topics include general governing principles; stages of recovery and integration; rights and services such as case management, safe and adequate accommodation, legal support, health care, counseling and psychological support, education, vocational rraining and job placement, life skills, recreation and culture, nutrition, access to community, child protection and staffing, discipline and child participation. There is also a discussion of State responsibilities.
