The author examines how internal trafficking is similar with internal displacement, so that internal trrafficking victims could be seen as internally displaced persons (IDPs). IDPs are those who have been forced or involuntarily moved to another location within their countries, for reasons such as armed conflict, violations of human rights or natural or man-made disasters. The author asserts that trafficking and IDP are related in several ways, including that IDP are vulnerable to trafficking and are demographically similar. Understanding the interconnections of internal and transnational trafficking, the author writes, “is a step towards devleoping a more comprehansive approach to these twin scourges.”
