“On 18 October 2005, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) hosted a workshop on international trafficking in human beings as part of the ‘UNITAR/United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)/International Organization for Migration (IOM) Key Migration Issues Workshop Series’. This workshop was organized jointly with the United Nations University (UNU) and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The event was held in Conference Room 9 at United Nations (UN) Headquarters. The attendees included 42 delegates representing 38 countries, in addition to 36 staff from UN Secretariat and agencies, other organizations and civil society. This workshop?s objectives focused on: enlightening participants on the subject of trafficking and its legal distinction from smuggling; informing participants of the common approaches to combating trafficking and related challenges; and sharing and discussing lessons learned from different countries and regions.” – Publisher’s description
