This paper examines the particular social and political context of children fleeing the Central American /maras, /scrutinizes potential asylum claims, analyzes the status of people deemed unworthy of refugee protection in international and domestic refugee law, studies child gang members in context of the statutory bars, and presents possible affirmative defenses they may have, and briefly proposes alternatives to asylum relief for child gang members.
