This article explores whether or not assimilation into US culture is desirable. Researchers use the case of second-generation Haitian immigrant youths growing up in Miami; these youths tend to assimilate into the low income inner-city black communities near them and adopt their skepticism toward the American Dream and their ambivalence toward education, which is detrimental to their success in the US.
