Before the outbreak of war, prostitution was strictly outlawed in Iraq under Sadam Hussein’s regime. Now that war has shattered this country, a growing number of young women and girls have resorted to this trade to make ends meet or were trafficked into the industry. This article describes the extent of this recent phenomenon and violation of human rights.
