This report looks into barriers that prevent newcomer families with young children from participating in early childhood and other social support services. The report makes recommendations to service providers on how to reach out more effectively to diverse families. Among other obstacles, the report notes that most families are simply not aware of existing programs for families with young children. This report reflects one year of hands-on research with Arabic-Speaking, Afghan, Somali, Spanish-Speaking, South Sudanese, and East European families. Though this research was carried out in Canada, much of it is applicable to those serving diverse populations in the U.S.
