This Refugee Simulation Activity is a script for a game of reenactment about the Afghani refugee experience designed for youth over the age of 16. Six stages take place that lead the participants through life in war-torn Afghanistan, dangerous travel through a heavily-mined landscape, negotiation with border guards, participation in Urdu language classes, the arrival to a Pakistani refugee camp, the reception of medical treatment, and a concluding session that allows the children to reflect upon this reenactment. Teachers and service providers working with an older group of students may find this game useful in helping youth better understand and relate to their refugee peers.
