This article draws information from a survey conducted of low-income families in south Florida to examine access and use of federal supports and services. The study found that U.S.-born mothers were more likely to have health insurance for their children than foreign-born mothers. In addition, they are more likely to receive food stamps and childcare subsidies. Foreign-born mothers, however, are more likely to participate in the Women, Infants, and Children???s (WIC) nutritional program.
