This Academy Award-nominated documentary film is about Thavisouk Phrasavath, a Laotian refugee, who also co-directed the film. The film covers his family???s escape from war-torn Laos to a refugee camp in Thailand and ultimately to inner-city America. Filmed over the course of 23 years, the film traces the hardship that the family encounters in the United States, where life is not as easy as they had expected.
