This overseas cultural orientation program highlight provides insight into the cultural orientation that refugees in West Africa receive before resettling in the U.S. CO training sessions are held in five countries, and refugees are taught in English, French, Arabic, and other indigenous languages. Students at the training sessions represent a variety of educational and social experiences. The training courses are held over a three-day period; course content is based on the Welcome to the U. S. guide and the West Africa CO Exercise Workbook, and a “parenting” unit was introduced into the curriculum. The target age for students in the West African program is 15 and over, and a specialized “Youth Curriculum” has been developed to address the specific challenges for youth in the 15-17 age range.
