Using a short pamphlet format and easy-to-understand cartoon illustrations and narrative, information is provided on the qualifications for help under the Americans with Disabilities Law. The booklet encourages self-help through work, education, transportation, living arrangements, and recreation. Step-by-step instructions provide guidance on applying for cash assistance to include the phone number for Social Security and descriptions of the appeal process if denied as well as an Internet address to locate rehabilitation or vocational assistance centers. The creation of an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for children with disabilities is discussed. The toll-free phone number and website to the National Council on Independent Living provide easy access to living center locations, personal assistants, home assistive technology options, respite care, and recreation services.Directions for use of public transportation, para- transit services, and disabled access laws are presented.
