This paper discusses new trends in child immigration; an overview of the three phases of mental health of immigrant children in detention, along with findings and recommendations; there is a discussion of recommendations such as release and changes in law. The author asserts that since the longer children are in detention, the more likely they are to develop serious mental health problems, and that since about 90 per cent of these children will continue to live in Australia, that the country “will be develooping a terrible legacy for ourselves” if laws are not changed.
