Presents a collection of photographs illustrating the stories of two teenagers living the legacy of the Salvadoran civil war in the gangs of Los Angeles and El Salvador. The trauma experienced by these two affected their personal choices and their families for multiple generations. This English/Spanish website provides a tool for educators and social activists working to address the challenges and legacy of youth violence. Edgar Bol??os? mother sent him back to San Salvador to try and save him from gang life; nevertheless, in San Salvador he hooked up with a drug gang. His mother persuaded him to live in the country with his grandfather, but he could not adjust to rural life and returned to the city where he was killed in a drive-by shooting two years after he arrived in San Salvador. He is buried there along with his brother who was killed in a Los Angeles gang. The second story is that of J??ssica Diaz who served time in the Ventura Juvenile Correctional Facility for helping her drug dealer in a robbery. At the age of three, she witnessed El Salvador government soldiers shoot her father in the head. Her family came to Los Angeles where she and her half-brothers joined gangs. Her mother cared for J??ssica?s son while she was incarcerated. She is now trying to rebuild her life and hopes to be able to care for her son on her own in the future.
