Unauthorized Migrants: Numbers and Characteristics – Background Briefing Prepared for Task Force on Immigration and America’s Future

Contains the report developed as a briefing paper for the Independent Task Force on Immigration and America’s Future, co-chaired by former Senator Spencer Abraham (R-MI) and former Congressman Lee Hamilton (D-IN). The report provides a range of material on the unauthorized migrant population resident in the United States. Demographic aspects and socioeconomic characteristics of this population are presented including: (1) number and composition of the population, (2) legal status of immigrants, (3) Latin American population, (4) unauthorized vs. authorized immigration, and (5) settlement destinations. The report also describes growth trends of the Mexican-born in the U.S. and projects the U.S. population of this group through 2050. (IP)
