This report by the National Center for Children in Poverty states that the number of children living in poverty increased by more than 11 percent between 2000 and 2005. Nearly 13 million American children live in families with incomes below the federal poverty level and as this brief indicates, having immigrant parents increases a child’s chance of being poor.
