Guides grant seekers in the process of researching different avenues for securing funding to support the programs of their organizations. Grant seekers get: (1) background on the origins of the nonprofit sector and the basics of starting a nonprofit organization; (2) tips on financial resource development and organizational readiness; (3) guidance on narrowing down the list of potential grant makers, including consideration of target population, geographic area, type of support, amount of funding requested, and application protocol; (4) insight into grant makers? funding decisions, including consideration of organizational capacity, program plan, and budget; (5) descriptions of types of public-sector funding, such as formula grants, block grants, project grants, hard and soft matching funds, and state and federal funding; (6) details about private-sector grant making by foundations, corporations, and religious-based organizations; and (7) information about in-kind or non-cash giving. By doing careful research, grant seekers not only save themselves time, but acquire essential information for crafting targeted proposals to potential funders.
