This report examines recent legislation related to unaccompanied children and offers background information on U.S. and International Law, the immigration system, and asylum seekers. Concerns such as unaccompanied children commingling with juvenile offenders and being housed with adults in both ???non-secure??? and secure detention are also summarized. In addition, the conditions of detention (discipline, physical/verbal abuse, restraints, recreation, edution, mental health services, religion, gender issues, etc) are examined. Finally, the report looks at what happens to these children upon release, legal representation, and their future in the United States.
