This archived website contains resources that establish lines of communication between overseas providers of cultural orientation programs and refugee resettlement programs in the United States. In particular, the website provides trainers overseas with links to information about resettlement opportunities in the U.S.; informs resettlement caseworkers on the type and length of cultural orientation (CO) training that is being provided to refugees overseas; features profiles and basic facts about new refugee groups arriving in the U.S.; and offers CO activities for trainers both abroad and in the U.S. In addition, the site contains a series of best practices for CO training, covering such topics as family roles in adjustment, workplace values, barriers to employment, job interviewing, money management, and cultural stereotyping; case studies that highlight aspects of culture shock; information about a trainer’s manual; updates on events related to refugee resettlement and cultural orientation and new publications in the field; an archive of refugee statistics; a compilation of questions that refugees frequently ask, covering such concerns as transit, resettlement and sponsorship, education, employment, health, housing and related financial matters, U.S. laws, and living in a multiethnic society; and links to U.S. refugee processing and resettlement programs.
