Redesigned each year, this resource packet includes: (1) an overview of child abuse prevention, offering an analysis of the national scope of child abuse and neglect and definitions of both child abuse and abuse prevention; (2) information about what communities can do to promote the yearly public awareness campaign, including tips on how to involve media and local spokespersons in Child Abuse Prevention Month activities and on how to prepare parent spokespersons, sample talking points, press releases, and public service announcements, and suggestions for finding child abuse data specific to a state or community; (3) information about what individuals can do when working within communities to establish awareness about child abuse intervention and prevention and to provide programs for new parents to instill effective parenting skills; and (4) other resources such as listings of national child-protection organizations, information about training programs and technical assistance, and a Child Abuse Prevention Month poster.
