Approximately 5 million children in the United States have at least one undocumented parent. Two-thirds of these children are U.S. citizens. A new Urban Institute study assesses the impact of Immigration Custom and Enforcement’s workplace raids on children, families, and the entities that support them, such as school systems and child care providers. The study looks at large-scale worksite raids that occurred in the past year in Grand Island, Nebraska; Greeley, Colorado; and New Bedford, Massachusetts. With enforcement actions expected to intensify, the panelists will consider who is responsible for protecting affected children and what policies and procedures could alleviate the negative consequences on young people.
