To sponsor a relative to be resettled in the United States as a refugee, the Affidavit of Relationship (AOR), the I-730, or the Refugee Information Form (Iranians only) may be filed. The Affidavit of Relationship serves as evidence of the relationship between a refugee applicant overseas and an anchor relative in the U.S. The refugee must still establish persecution and must be out of their country of origin. The I-730 conveys derivative status on the spouse and/or unmarried minor child of a refugee or asylee who is in the United States. The beneficiary does not need to establish a claim to persecution. The beneficiary can be within his/her country of origin. The Refugee Information Form serves as an application to sponsor an Iranian of a religious minority living in Iran.
