Examines child protection systems across the United States to determine whether the use of law enforcement in the investigation of child abuse and neglect is beneficial to the children themselves. Researchers identified distinct levels of law enforcement involvement in child abuse and neglect casework, from low to high, and then analyzed child protection agency manuals from the states and the District of Columbia as well as pertinent state statutes.
